Like most local authorities this client found that implementing IEG meant rapid growth and change
to its IT systems. The Council’s IT department recognized that the introduction
of new technology and processes inevitably increased dependency on IT and the risks and
impacts for business continuity were changing radically.
In conjunction with the IT department MorganDoyle audited existing systems and procedures
engaging representatives from all of their service departments. The information was loaded
into our Service Inventory database which maps services onto IT systems and supporting
components. The resultant reports identify risks and single points of failure and assess the service
impact of an incident affecting individual systems or whole locations. MorganDoyle
established priorities for restoring servers by evaluating options
including "ship-to-site" replacement servers, PCs configured to the standard
O/S and application builds, external data centres and DR suites, and recommended a best fit solution.
The Council now has a concrete action plan and service inventory database to be used
operationally by the BC/DR management and emergency teams.
